Miami-Dade County, FL. April 17, 2025 – Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Miami-Central Office on Thursday, April 24 at 10:00 a.m., marking a major milestone in his first 100 days in office.
Located at 3721 NW 7th Street, the facility became the third full-service branch launched under his leadership. "Opening this office is proof that we are delivering real results and making government work better for the people of Miami-Dade County," said Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez. “From day one, we made it our mission to expand services while doing more with less.” Continued Fernandez, “Our team is proving every day that we can move faster, operate smarter, and treat people with the dignity they deserve. Thank you to all of the hardworking men and women across our offices who make all of this possible."
Formerly operated by the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), the site is now fully under local control. With 33 service windows and the capacity to serve around 800 customers per day, the branch reflects the administration’s commitment to efficiency, accessibility, and local accountability. “Residents deserve a government that respects their time and meets them where they are,” Fernandez continued. “We are doing just that.”
Since taking office on January 7, Fernandez has implemented sweeping reforms to modernize the Tax Collector’s Office. His administration has improved staffing, upgraded training, and streamlined workflows across all three full-service locations—Downtown Office (200 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33128), North Dade Justice Center (15555 Biscayne Blvd. Miami, FL 33160.), and the Central Office (3721 NW 7th St. Miami, FL 33126).
The Downtown branch now offers Saturday hours, giving working families and residents with weekday obligations more access to services. Fernandez also took decisive action to address long-standing problems with appointment scalping. Within weeks, he exposed abuse by individuals and companies hoarding appointments and reselling them for profit. Working with the County Commission, Fernandez championed a new ordinance that made appointment scalping illegal, restoring fairness and access to essential services for the public.
In partnership with Publix supermarkets, his Office launched five self-service kiosks across the County, allowing residents to renew and print registration tags instantly, reducing wait times and increasing convenience.
Demonstrating a firm commitment to responsible governance, Fernandez declined to retain the standard 2% commission from municipalities and the Unincorporated Municipal Services Area (UMSA)—returning over $40 million directly to local governments. His administration also eliminated more than $2.5 million in outdated or unnecessary contracts, reinvesting those funds into improved technology, better service, and a more modern experience for residents.“The message is simple: we work for you,” said Fernandez. “This is your money, your time, and your government—and we are going to treat it that way every single day.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Miami-Central Office will take place on Thursday, April 24 at 10:00 a.m. Members of the public, local leaders, and the media are invited to attend.
