The Office of the Miami-Dade Tax Collector, led by Dariel Fernandez, is committed to making government services more accessible and convenient for all Miami-Dade residents. Recently, the office met with the Greater Miami Expressway Agency (GMX) team to explore opportunities for collaboration, particularly in expanding services like SunPass and other toll-related services across all Tax Collector offices. This partnership is part of their ongoing effort to bring essential services closer to the people, making it easier for residents to access a variety of services in one convenient location.

One of the main areas where GMX and our office will be collaborating is the SunPass program. As you know, all five of these expressways are toll roads, requiring either a SunPass transponder or participation in the “toll-by-plate” program. The transition to all-electronic tolling across the expressways began in 2010, starting with Gratigny Parkway, Don Shula, and Snapper Creek Expressways, followed by the Airport and Dolphin Expressways in 2014. This transition has made toll collection easier and more efficient for drivers, but we understand that accessing a SunPass and managing toll payments can sometimes be a challenge.

That’s why, through this collaboration, we’re working on making SunPass services more accessible by offering them at our Tax Collector’s offices across Miami-Dade County. Residents will now be able to purchase and manage their SunPass accounts, renew transponders, and even access other toll-related services at the same time they handle their driver’s licenses and identification card needs.

the Greater Miami Expressway Agency (GMX), formerly known as the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX), is an independent state agency that manages and maintains five key toll roads in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. These expressways are vital to our daily commute and economic activity, including the Airport Expressway SR 112, Dolphin Expressway SR 836, Don Shula Expressway SR 874, Snapper Creek Expressway SR 878, and Gratigny Parkway SR 924 (including NW 138th Street).

This partnership with GMX is just one of many ways we’re working to build stronger, more efficient connections between government agencies and the residents we serve. By combining our resources and knowledge, we can create streamlined processes that make life in Miami-Dade easier for everyone. Together, we are committed to improving accessibility, reducing bureaucracy, and ensuring that services are available when and where you need them most.

I’m truly excited about the possibilities that this collaboration brings and look forward to continuing to serve you. Keep an eye out for updates as we roll out these new services in the coming months. We’re always here to help—and with this new partnership, we’re making sure that we’re doing it in the most efficient way possible.
